Increasing happiness with a haven for cats and humans and cats to enjoy each others company

Could you support someone with a disability to volunteer at Pause Cat Cafe?

Here at Pause Cat Cafe, our mission is Kindness: kindness to animals, our community and our environment. Because of this, we offer placements for people who have disabilities, learning difficulties and mental illness. Our volunteers find that working at Pause gives them purpose, a way to get out and feel productive, and they are able to learn useful skills that can help them in their daily lives but also improve their opportunities to get jobs.

Our volunteers love working at Pause, and we love putting smiles on their faces!

Some of our volunteers would benefit from more one-to-one guidance to help them push themselves further and learn more new skills so they feel even more proud of their achievements and end their shift with an even bigger smile.

We are looking for a lovely, patient, kind person to help support our volunteers on their shifts. Your role is to verbally guide and show the volunteer the task and to encourage them to try new things. Think of yourself as a cheerleader!

The types of tasks you’d be helping them to do are dependent on the volunteer that you are matched with, but could include cat care (changing litter, health checks, cleaning, feeding and safeguarding) or cafe tasks (waiting tables, taking orders, washing up, wrapping cutlery) and may be either during the cafe’s opening hours or when we are closed. Volunteer shifts last 3-hours and some volunteers do more than one shift each week.

We are a disability confident employer and are proud to welcome a team with a variety of ages, genders, orientations, shapes, and sizes!

Please send CV and an inspirational cover letter explaining why you are the best person to work with us.
This role is unpaid.

Our mission is to improve lives by promoting kindness (to humans and animals). Our first priority is a happy home for our rescue cats, and at the same time, we are a place for people to experience the healing serenity of being around cats: enhancing your mood, relieving stress, increasing joy and happiness. Our food is locally sourced, ethical and highest quality vegetarian and vegan food.

Here at Pause Cat Cafe, we ensure that everybody gets equal rights. To do this we have become a Disability Confident Employer, and have made a commitment to employ and retain disabled people. There are always alternate ways to do any task given, and we will do our best to accommodate people who have any disabilities by making reasonable adjustments to the job. If a disabled applicant meets the minimum criteria for the job, they will be given the opportunity to show their abilities in an interview. We aim to make every employee that works here Disability Confident as well, therefore making Pause Cat Cafe part of the Disability Confident culture.
