Hello kitty lovers!
Here at Pause we know that getting older doesn’t have to mean slowing down, which is why we are looking for some older volunteers to join our friendly and passionate team!
As a non-profit organisation, we simply couldn’t function without our kind volunteers, who are vital to the running of Pause and ensuring that our kitties get the best possible care. Our team share our dedication to our values and ethos, and most importantly our passion for kindness. Plus volunteering with us comes with a great chance to socialise with a range of people, from staff to customers, and most importantly our cats! To top it all off, spending time with animals has been proven to improve mental health and emotional stability.
Volunteering post-retirement has a range of benefits, from keeping your brain and body active to providing new experiences that allow you to use skills you may already have, or learn new ones.
41% of people over retirement age in the UK volunteer and have found an increased level of life satisfaction, as well as a reduction in stress levels. Volunteering with us comes with the added relaxing benefit of spending time with our kitties!
We have two types of role available, Cat Care Volunteer and Cafe Volunteer. We ask our volunteers to commit to at least one regular weekly shift of 3-hours.
Cafe volunteers help with the preparation of food and drink, waitressing, hosting and clearing up. Full training is provided, so no experience is necessary as long as you have a ‘can-do’ cattitude and pawsitivity!
Cat Care Volunteers help our cats and customers to interact happily. We have at least one member of the Cat Care team on duty at all times, even when the cafe is closed. It is important that a high standard of care is maintained for the cats and that they are in a safe and happy environment. In order to ensure this, our cat care volunteers offer love, stimulation, compassion, stability and security to all our cats, whilst keeping an eye on both cats and customers to ensure health and safety regulations are adhered to and everyone is getting along!
According to The National Institute of Aging, keeping active and contributing to something both meaningful and productive like Pause may lower the risk of health problems such as dementia in later life. So, if you’re looking for more structure with a sense of purpose and accomplishment every day, or simply want to give back to the community and a worthy cause, we’d love to welcome you to our team!!
“Our volunteers are the glue that keeps us together at Pause. We have someone with the cats 24 hours a day, to ensure that they’re the happiest kitties that they can possibly be! Volunteering is mutually beneficial as many of our volunteers find caring for twelve cats to be relaxing, stress-relieving and it’s also a great opportunity to meet other cat lovers!”
